My secret, which I am now going to share with you, is all about the ingredients. When you use real foods (i.e. whole and unprocessed, and therefore full of flavor) you can toss the unnecessary junk that makes most desserts so hopelessly bad for you: refined sugar, preservatives, pasteurized dairy products.

On any given day you can see beautiful fruit ripening in my kitchen. I let it ripen to completion, because only then are the flavors and nutrients released and ready to be utilized by our bodies. And once it’s ripe and ready, I use it to create all kinds of super healthy and easy desserts.

Did you know that simple frozen bananas, blended until they’re creamy and smooth, make the most delicious ice cream? It’s true! Try adding in some fresh coconut water and medjool dates when you’re blending them up, and you’ve really got a treat.

I last ate refined sugar in 2008, and in the years since then I have really watched my taste buds bloom. I no longer have the slightest craving for artificially sweetened foods, and am completely and totally satisfied by the natural sweetness found in fruits.

Creating a collection of dessert recipes based around simple, sweet and wonderful fruits has been so rewarding, because it has enabled me to share with you my discovery that life without refined sugar is pretty darn sweet!

Not all of my easy desserts utilize fruit. I highly recommend my chocolate mousses – yep, I’ve got two, both made with completely healthy ingredients that won’t spike your blood sugar or make your doctor frown.
