Laughter can help you to stay healthy. Yes, believe it or not it can. Anyone who knows me personally would think that I must be the healthiest person on earth. But, I’m a firm believer in laughter and laughing at anything – and definitely including myself. My hubby will walk into the kitchen and hear me giggling at something. He’ll ask me what I’m laughing at – and it’s usually something silly I’ve done. But, the point is – laughter is good for you. Read on to find out why!

First of all, laughter relieves stress. Everyone knows how bad stress is for you. If you are going through a stressful situation – try to find something that makes you laugh. Watch a favorite funny TV show, read something funny – do something that you know will make you laugh. This will help you to maybe not forget about your situation – but will help you to relieve some of the stress and keep it from building up to a critical point.

Once you take a little break and do something to put some humor in your life – you will feel much better. You’ll be more able to handle the situation and will have a little bounce in your step when you can back to whatever you are dealing with.

I’m a runner – so I understand endorphins that are produced when I run. Endorphins are what the mind produces that gives you a good feeling all over – think “runner’s high”. Here’s something that many people don’t know. Laughter can cause these endorphins, also. So, the more you laugh – the better you’ll feel! That’s one of the reasons that people say that those that have a good sense of humor are healthier and happier.

Here’s another little known fact about laughter. When you laugh, it sends a boost of oxygen to your brain. This extra oxygen will help you to think more clearly. Having a good laugh also helps to relax your mind. You know how your mind will think overtime and keep you from other things – get a good laugh in about something. It will help to clear everything up.

If you are dealing with a difficult situation with someone – find something to laugh about with them. It can break up the tension – and you can resolve whatever it is better. And, with better feelings on both sides than may have happened otherwise.

So, it’s perfectly alright to laugh throughout your day. It’s good for you – and will keep you healthier in body and mind! Find the humor in whatever situation and see how much better you are! Remember the Reader’s Digest section – “Laughter Is The Best Medicine”.
