In order to get in the best shape possible, nutrition has to be at the forefront of your lifestyle. Yes, you will NOT see great results without a solid nutrition plan. That is just a fact that you’ll have to accept. Don’t get discouraged though, because eating healthy can actually be fun. It may not be as simple as eating convenient junk food, but there’s a quote out there that really rings true in this case. “Nothing good ever came easy.” So here’s my attempt to try and help you out a little.
These are the meals that I like to include in my diet to ensure I’m eating healthy:
1. My Morning Smoothie
Almost every morning I try to have a smoothie that contains a banana, rolled oats, natural peanut butter, blueberries and a scoop of protein powder. I throw it all in my Magic Bullet and in minutes I have a delicious and nutritious meal.
2. Raw Nuts
No, this isn’t exactly a “meal” but you should include healthy snacks in your diet throughout the day in order to keep your metabolism firing and your cravings at bay. But when you choose any form of nuts, make sure they are in their rawest form. Chocolate coated, or honey roasted doesn’t count. Try a handful of raw almonds or pecans.
3. Chicken Salad
Every evening I make sure to pack a few salads for my lunch and snacks at work. I use either lettuce or spinach and then throw in some chicken, cucumbers, a tomato and half an avacado. I’ll always use an oil based dressing as well. I usually only use extra virgin olive oil to be honest. All the flavour comes from the veggies and chicken.
4. Stir Fry
This is one of my go-to’s that I haven’t gone to in a while. Not sure why, but it’s tastey. I find either a chicken breast or a cut of lean beef and dice it up into small pieces. After frying that up, I’ll throw in a can of mushrooms, brown rice, broccoli, a green pepper and any other veggie I have in the fridge that would go well. After everything is cooked I’ll add some soy sauce and balsamic vinegar for taste. I love the stuff!
5. Chicken Fajitas
The only thing that’s not great about this is the wrap. Doesn’t matter what kind of bread or wrap you’re looking at, if you take a look at the ingredients, you’ll find you don’t know what most of it is. That’s not the best thing, so I try to get whole grain wraps because it’s the closest you’ll get to “healthy”. Anyway, cut up some chicken breasts into tiny pieces, fry them up with some extra virgin olive oil, and add in some mushrooms and peppers (sorry, but I hate onions). Add in some chicken fajita powder and load it up with salsa. My absolute favorite meal!
So there you have it. My favorite healthy meals that I regularly eat. Everybody needs to remember that a training plan does nothing without a solid nutrition plan in place. So make sure to always eat healthy meals whenever you have the choice over something quick and lacking in nutrients.
