What is the importance of positive thinking in weight loss? The other day I heard a person who was jogging on the treadmill just next to me ask this question to the trainer. If you keep encountering negative thoughts, weight loss would be a distant dream for you. On the other hand, if you are a positive thinker, weight loss becomes easy. Just spend a minute to think about the reasons why you are unable to lose weight. Believe it or, not, it is because you believe that you are fat. Have you ever hated yourself for that? All these are reasons for failure in weight loss plans. Now assume for a minute you are thin.

You would have experienced a positive impact in your thoughts. This is something that we normally experience when we wear a dress that fits us well and somebody compliments you for that. There is a sense of positive energy that flows through you. So your mindset and attitude can make or, break your weight loss goals. Have you ever felt that losing weight is an overnight activity? Never, right? It is never an overnight activity. So will it be possible to change your negative frame of mind overnight? Certainly not! So take small steps and put in a conscious effort to transform your negative thoughts into positive ones. Follow these 2 simple tips and see the change that it brings in you.

Writing your weight loss goals – What made you take a decision to lose weight? What is the biggest reason behind your weight loss efforts? The reason could be any – wanting to look like your favorite movie-star, taunts and comments from your office colleagues, that favorite trouser of yours that does not fit you now, intolerable advices from your friends on weight loss, a medical requirement etc. Whatever the reason for the weight loss reason, irrespective of the fact that it is small or, big, write it down. An easy to follow way to write down your weight loss goals is by writing it down on a Post-It. Write down your goals in Post-IT stickers and stick them wherever you normally spend most of your time. Two places where you should have a couple of these stickers are the Kitchen and the Refrigerator. This is so that it reminds you of your weight-loss plans when you are tempted to eat something that is not very healthy.

In addition to a stern decision to lose weight and a weight loss goals you also need a good diet plan that can help you loose weight. It is said that 80% reason why a weight loss plan fails is because of improper diet. So decide on a weight loss diet plan after you write down your goals

Setting goals – The next most important point is to set goals – realistic and workable goals. Setting a goal of losing 10 pounds in a week is not a realistic goal. Such unrealistic goals would only set you back on your weight loss plans when you see that you have not achieved your goals. Start by ascertaining what your body weight is. Then find out what your ideal body weight should be. Deduct the ideal weight from your current body weight and you know the weight loss target that you have to achieve. In a normal scenario, one cannot lose more than 2-3 pounds in a week. So don’t set a goal of achieving your desired body weight in a month or, so if you are to lose more than 40 pounds. Based on the calculations that you did above, work out the period that you will have to work out to lose the calculated weight.

This is precisely where most weight loss plans end, because people normally set unrealistic goals at the outset like losing 80 pounds in 3 months. It is not that it is not possible. There might be people who would have achieved it, but it is always good to set achievable goals in life. Once your goals are in place, you would need some kind of a push to keep you going. This would be the motivation that will push you to work-out every day. What I would recommend is to get a poster of the person who you would want to look like. Stick it in your bedroom. Then get a poster of yours in your present shape. Stick it just adjacent to the other poster. You would be more than motivated everyday when you see these two posters.
