How To Stay Motivated Working Out At Home

One of the biggest problems I find with exercise is how do you stay motivated at home? Many people go to a gym and workout, but what if going to a gym just is not for you? I personally hate going to gyms and working out with lots of strangers. People sit there and stare at you while you are running on a treadmill. I do never feel comfortable with those large gyms and they make it worse by putting mirrors everywhere so not only are people staring at you, but the only person you can look at, is yourself. If I go to a gym its because I don’t like how I look, so why would I want a mirror placed in front of me?

I feel gyms are also over priced or cost too much. They do motivate you to workout, especially if you are paying a monthly membership fee. For some people I guess that is one factor in staying motivated, while others are motivated when they drive to the gym. I find it hard to get motivated to drive 10 miles to my nearest gym. Finding the time to get to the gym is also not motivating. Who wants to get off work and then have to drive to get your workout done?

These are all motivating factors for me, because I would rather workout at home than drive to a gym to workout. I also have a workout partner, my neighbor. My neighbor comes over every afternoon when I get off work and we go through our workout routine. The hardest part of our workout was actually starting a workout routine. We never knew how to work out properly or even what we should be doing and how much weight we should be lifting. Running was always easy as I ran in high school. One of the few benefits of a gym, besides all of the equipment is the personal trainers they provide, but usually they cost upwards of $100 per hour.

How you stay motivated is different from one person to the next. My neighbor and I bought a few workout DVDs, which is just like having a personal trainer with you in your living room. The best part is not only are we learning how to work out the correct way and how much we need to be doing, but we also save money from going to a gym and we stay motivated because of the DVDs. Workout DVDs are a thing of the future, we just need to find the time to get our exercises in.
