The importance of proper dental care is usually understood after meeting an agonizing toothache that just won’t go away! People that live fast paced lives with no time to spare often find themselves neglecting their own heath. This holds true for the innumerable number of people living in cities as well; who suffer from terrible dental problems like tooth decay and gum diseases every year, all occurring due to a lack of proper dental care.
Dental problems can be of varying degrees some may only last for a few hours others may stay with you for days. The underlying reason behind your pain may also differ. Some dental problems may be superficial and others may be caused by more deep rooted reasons. But by adopting minor lifestyle changes and taking up dental care tips we can prevent the majority of dental problems from occurring and progressing in the first place:
1. Brush your Teeth Twice a Day
Yes, even though everyone is aware of this obvious and simple rule we still, more than often tend to ignore it. Brushing your teeth before going to bed is extremely important because your mouth has recently been exposed to many chemical and substances that were a part of your dinner or late night snack. And if the mouth isn’t cleaned then they will stay there and attack on your oral cavities and teeth.
2. Brush your Teeth after Sugary Food and Caffeinated Drinks
If sugar stays in the mouth for a long time then the bacteria present in the mouth digests it and releases acid, which attacks the teeth. When the teeth are constantly attacked by the acid their structure begins to weaken resulting in their poor appearance and foul breath.
3. Avoid Hourly Snacking
Constant snacking means the constant exposure of your teeth and overall oral cavity to chemicals and bacteria. This can reduce your ability to keep your dental hygiene in check and also cause plaque to form on the outer surface of your teeth; which is a thin film of bacteria that constantly damages teeth.
4. Floss and start using a Mouth Wash
Oral hygiene can not only be restricted to brushing our teeth. If you observe, our teeth have a complex structure with minute gaps between them which can neither be cleaned by a toothbrush or tooth paste. It is important to floss and use mouth wash to discard any remaining food or bacteria that may reside in these places to completely clean the mouth. These areas are also the primal places where dental diseases arise from.
5. Regular Appointment to the Dentist
Lastly, besides taking daily preventative measures to ensure dental health it is also extremely important to seek consultation from a certified dentist at least every six months. To make sure that no aspect of your oral health is being compromised. Your dentist may also be able to advise further dental care measures to be taken, to enable you to enhance your dental care and gain an optimal and healthy smile.
If patients take these simple preventative measures beforehand then they can overcome the need for expensive and painful dental treatments in the future.
